Distractions
I can’t help but love Jesus. It’s things he does like we heard today in the gospel. He has been with his buddies, the disciples, for three years, and they know each other, spending every day together. He had something He wanted to tell his disciples for a long time.
Have you ever had something you couldn’t wait to tell somebody? It was like burning inside you. That was happening to Jesus. He knew how much He was going to suffer on the Cross, and he knew how much it was going to hurt. So, he needed some support from His friends.
Did they listen? NO. They didn’t. It seemed like they didn’t even hear Jesus. They were only thinking of themselves. Two of them wanted to be His generals, and they had Mom ask for them, but she didn’t hear Jesus either.
People in our Lord’s times didn’t have cell phones, but I bet they would be much like us if they did. Have you ever been trying to talk to a friend who who wouldn’t take their eyes off their phone? How did you feel?
Have you been so distracted that you forgot to pay attention to a friend? I know I have at times. The phone can be so distracting.
Jesus needed time with his disciples for them to understand him and help Him carry His Cross, but they needed more time. Our family and friends need us to listen to and understand them. When we do, we grow in love with them, and all our distractions seem like a waste of time.
It’s not what we do that matters. It’s who we are with.
Gospel Challenge:
Let’s decide whether we will pay attention to people more than our phones or other distractions. Let’s ask Jesus for that grace.
For your convenience, The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available every evening during Lent, starting on March 18 from 6-7 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Wed., March 26.
No confessions will be heard during Holy Week. Please take advantage of this
opportunity. We will continue to have confessions on Saturdays from 3-4 p.m.
Love Your Neighbor:
Please join me in praying for all baptized Catholics to be faithful to Jesus in the Holy Mass every weekend. Hail Mary, full of grace…
