Inquiring Minds Want to Know
When I read the gospel for Tuesday, the National Enquirer slogan, “Inquiring Minds
Want to Know,” (V=https://outlawvern.com/2019/03/05/aces-iron-eagle-iii/) came to mind.
Nicodemus is curious about Jesus, and he has to know for himself.
Has something ever been so important to you that you needed your space away from all
the distractions? Meet Nicodemus, a leading Pharisee, a group known for their strict
adherence to religious laws and traditions.
He sought Jesus at night. Did he meet Jesus at night because he wanted to keep it
secret from his fellow Pharisees? Maybe. But notice that he isn’t full of himself in this
private meeting, trying to trip Jesus up as his fellow Pharisees did. Instead, he is
genuinely curious because his questions seek the truth.
Nicodemus’s private encounter with Jesus was a transformative moment. It instilled in
him the courage to stand up for our Lord at His trial. He fearlessly questioned the court
about the fairness of judging a man without investing in the case.
When asked if he was a follower of Jesus, he did not shy away. Nicodemus also came
forward at the crucifixion of Jesus and buried his dead body in his family tomb, a
testament to his newfound courage and faith.
Gospel Challenge:
Think about what that one private encounter with Jesus did for Nicodemus. We all
struggle with things and questions about life that go unanswered. We can be with Jesus
in the Blessed Sacrament as much as Nicodemus was in the night.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are overburdened, and I will give you rest for your
souls” (Matthew 11:28-30). This is the Gospel Challenge – to seek Jesus in our
moments of struggle and find rest in Him.

with Him today. His love and guidance are always available, waiting for you to seek
them.
