What a Companion. Wow!
Since the early church, we have believed that a personal angel is given to every human being to guard their bodily and spiritual well-being.
This gift is independent of the state of a person’s soul, whether or not they are in a state of grace or whether they have faith in God.
Can you imagine being a constant companion of someone looking
for every way they can cause havoc in a person’s life and society.
We see a pure love of God in the souls of our Guardian Angels.
In fact, in the fourth century, theologian and Bishop St. Basil said, “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and Shepherd leading them to life –
and he should know because he has been known as the “revealer of heavenly mysteries!”
These Guardian Angels are good spirits who “guard” and care for us.
The incredible thing about guardian angels is that they are always in the presence of God, just like you and I are in the presence of each other.
Think about that.
Right now and every moment, they are looking at the face of God and will do for us only what is pleasing to him. Guardian angels are constant companions with us on our pilgrimage to heaven.
They are with us now on earth, and please God, we will be with them in heaven.
I can’t help but think of their love for us, and I feel ashamed for not giving them the attention and love they deserve.
Gospel Challenge:
Jesus tells us, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”
Let us pray for anyone who would bring harm to a child that their guardian angel will intervene in a sure way to protect that child. Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God loves, commit me here. Ever this day, be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
